We were recently tasked with updating the headshots for the partners and Senior Counsel at the law firm of Fragomen, Del Rey, Bernsen and Loewy, LLP. The great thing about working with our primary contact at Fragomen was that she understood the need for a nice size open space that allowed us to have 2 photographers shooting simultaneously. This helped to minimize the time needed to photograph and select the images for each partner.

In addition to photographing 47 individuals we also created 4 different groups for collatoral marketing efforts of the firm’s active marketing group.

Preparation for this type of assignment is critical, so I scouted the location 24 hours prior to the shoot, only to find out that the hotel wasn’t 100% prepared for our needs the next day. It took several hours of pre-production work, packing and repacking to make sure we had all the equipment we needed to get the job done the right way.

From the clients standpint, they wanted great portraits and they needed them to be consistently lit. As the firm continues to grow we’ll need to be able to repeat the lighting and color in multiple locations so we took extra time to document the scene (distances, lighting ratios, power, lenses, camera, etc.) so we’ll be able to create the exact same look and feel during the next shoot.

In addition to our standard portrait background choices (grey, blue, earth tone), we always have the option to extract the subject from the background and place you on the background of your choice. Sometimes we create the original image using green screen or chroma-key background paper. We do this when the client isn’t sure which background they need or if they already know they will need several different backgrounds for various applications.

The key to shooting on chroma-key is to light the background evenly. This is another reason that we SPECIALIZE in business headshots…it allows us to stay on top of various techniques for our business client. These techniques can be used for many different areas of photography but by concentrating our attention serving the business client we can provide a superior product (image).
